Brian Street
Brian was born in China of missionary parents. After spending his first 9 years in China and Japan, he then moved to Alberta for further schooling. Here he was raised in a country setting, near the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. where he spent a lot of time appreciating the great outdoors. Throughout his life he has not only shown a good eye for detail, colour, and symmetry; but also developed a creative talent in his many "hands on" ventures.
After attending Ryerson College in Toronto, taking courses in Photography & Graphic Arts, Brian spent time in Alaska and worked in the Yukon. He settled in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island in the mid 70's. Recently after retiring from commercial fishing, he is devoted to wood turning full time.
Brian has not only taken wood turning courses; but also, has developed a unique artistic flare expressed in his strong and graceful forms. He enjoys working with west coast burls which show beautiful colour and grain patterns exposed in a variety of his turned and carved pieces.
Many of the burls were taken from the forest 30 to 50 years ago. His artistic expressions have been chosen by collectors in United States and Canada.
